How long must I wait to get waxed after shaving?
A minimum of 10 days for best results. Esty recommends boyshorts to relieve the concerns with the growing out process.
Who can be waxed and who cannot?
Anyone can get waxed except for persons using blood thinning medications, accutane, retin-a or any vitamin A product that thins the skin. If waxed, it may result in ‘burning of the skin’. A temporary, but uncomfortable experience. Microderm or any form of chemical peels may not get waxed 10 – 30 days after services depending on skin type. Esty reserves the right to decline service if it is possible for the skin to be compromised due to waxing.
How long does the hair need to be in order to be smooth?
1/4 inch and no longer than 1 inch for best results. It may take up to 3 waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the hair growth cycle. It is very important to not shave in between waxings, for it will stimulate the hair growth process.
What are ingrown hairs?
A condition where the hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin. It may or may not be accompanied by an infection of the hair follicle (folliculitis) or “razor bumps”, which vary in size. While ingrown hair most commonly appears in areas where the skin is shaved, it can appear anywhere. Anything which causes the hair to be broken off short with a sharp tip can cause ingrown hair. Shaving is the leading cause, followed by tight clothing. The embedded hair causes a localized inflammation(sometimes painful) response in the skin with prostanoid involvement. Sometimes ingrown hair occurs naturally without shaving. Symptoms include rash, itching skin, hair which remains in spite of shaving, and infection and pus collecting under skin.
How can ingrown hairs be prevented and treated?
Circular rotations with a loofah in the bath also help in the prevention. In the event that an ingrown hair does appear, you may use 2 q-tips on warm, damp skin to extract, never use tweezers or your nails in order to prevent scarring.
How often should I get waxed?
Every 3 weeks. After a series of waxing has been complete, most clients are able to go every 4 to 6 weeks due to the thinning of the hair.
